Baltimore County Focusing on Rail Crossing Safety

Holding more than three decades of experience, attorney Rick Jaklitsch has represented dozens of clients in Maryland’s county and federal courts. A member of the state bar and the Maryland Association for Justice, Rick Jaklitsch focuses on personal injury cases involving automobiles, trucks, and trains.

After a collision between a train and vehicle occurred at a private rail crossing for the second time in several years, Baltimore County is considering solutions to improve safety. Incidents at the dangerous crossing have severely injured six people. A single driver was involved in the most recent crash, and had to be removed from the scene of the accident on a stretcher.

While local officials have advocated for a warning system to be placed at the crossing, current state rail funding is limited to public lines, and the troublesome crossing is owned by a private company. One way forward would be for the state of Maryland to purchase the railway and make it eligible for federal funding.
